Cincinnati Children’s Installs Matrixx-M in New Critical Care Facility

CINCINNATI, OH

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) opened the new critical care building, to make it the largest expansion in hospital history.  The new tower, which houses all of the intensive cares units, has Nexxspan’s equipment rail system installed throughout the facility.  Nexxspan’s Matrixx-M vertical med-gas headwall system was added to key areas of the hospital to include the 86 bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Emergency Department, Bone Marrow Transplant and Complex Airway units.

The integrated equipment management systems throughout the tower were cultivated through a collaboration between Nexxspan, Skytron, Stevens and Moon, WALSH, ZGF and Brodwill.  Equipment rail was strategically placed in the new tower and also added to the Skytron boom to meet the customer’s needs for optimal flexibility and functionality.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital is located in Avondale, an economically challenged community in the Cincinnati area.  This project purposefully included opportunities for small and minority-owned businesses to help bring jobs and income to this under-served community.

Nexxspan Healthcare, in partnership with ZGF, worked together with the CCHMC design team to identify the medical gas and equipment management needs of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.  This is not the first time ZGF and Nexxspan have paired up to design the ideal physical environment for the care-givers and patients they serve.  In 2017, the dynamic duo worked together on the Beacon Children’s Hospital NICU project in South Bend, IN under the guidance of Dr. Bob White.  Both projects maximize the versatility of the component-based headwalls and equipment management systems allowing the facility to design their units to meet their individual needs. Additionally, both projects were supported with detailed input from families, patients and staff as an essential part of the design process.  Many mock-ups and simulations were run to test design elements and flexibility of space during the planning process.

“The development of this project with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital was a true partnership between the facility, the architect, other product suppliers, construction, our distributor and Nexxspan management team.  Together, we created equipment management solutions to meet the needs of each department to help position them for success.  The opening of this new tower is a proud moment for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital as it enhances the care provided to the children in the community”, commented Scott Stewart, President of Nexxspan Healthcare.
